What is QuitMeter?
QuitMeter.org is a web tool that gives you a little bit of help in your attempt to quit smoking.
How?
Essentially what this site does is helps you remember the great things your doing by quitting smoking. When you stop smoking, you're immediately saving your health and saving your wealth. QuitMeter helps you keep track of the benefits to your body as well as the benefits to your wealth. Along the way, we'll also include links and lists of tips to help you succeed.
Why?
Quitting smoking is hard as hell. For many of us, its the hardest thing we'll ever do. And at those points when it gets really hard, it always helps to remember why we're doing this. Plus, as with any achievement, its always worth reminding yourself how well you're doing.
When?
QuitMeter was originally started on a personal website (http://www.rangnekar.net/akshay/quitsmoking/) as a personal tool for tracking progress. It's moved a couple of times, and stagnated in functionality for a couple of years. Thanks to Squurl, we noticed that the QuitMeter.org domain name had freed up, and so we decided to redesign and rewrite the site. All existing user accounts have been preserved. At the moment there are over 100 accounts of people who are now non-smokers.
What are you trying to sell?
We're not trying to sell you anything. We don't have any advertising, and we won't recommend anything to you unless we truly believe in it (and even then we certainly won't take any payment for it.) We're not gathering personal information unless we tell you exactly why, and we certainly won't sell it or distribute it in any way. See our privacy policy for more information.
Why's this a "BETA"?
We are constantly revising the content and applications on QuitMeter. Calling it a "beta" allows us to be more free about what changes we make and when we make then.
Who's behind QuitMeter?
The truth is, there is no "we" or "us" behind QuitMeter. My name is Akshay Rangnekar, and I started QuitMeter initially as a personal project to motivate myself to stop smoking. After seeing the way it helped motivate me, I decide to make it possible for others to create QuitMeters of their own. I'm a software engineer and entrepreneur in my spare time, I tend to use this site as a testing ground for new technology tricks that I want to use in my other sites.
